Intersections Art and Science

                                                                                    Art and Science my two loves. When they are combined together  it is pure magic and alluring to the eyes and soul. Though these two are very complimentary to each other, they can also be very contrasting as well. As I was digging deep into the combination of these two ideas I stumbled upon a very compelling article. An article called How Art and Science Intersect by Zayan Guedim. What I found super fascinating was how he mentioned Steve Jobs. Zayan mentions how Steve Jobs was known for his artistically scientific approach to the Apple products that were created. Mt. Wilson History- Sophie Ungless

While many people may not know the name Mount Wilson, they most likely know about at least one of the many historical discoveries that have been made there. Mount Wilson Observatory was founded in 1904 by George Hale, and originally was mainly used to study the sun with the 60-inch Snow Solar Telescope. As the largest telescope at the time, it was a trial to get it on top of the mountain in Pasadena. According to Mount Wilson Observatory’s website, it took 60 trips to carry all the pieces for the telescope to the top, and everything was carried on horses’ or mules’ backs. It took a few years for building to be completed and to work out some issues, so the 60-inch telescope was completed in 1908.  The Snow Telescope held the record for the largest telescope until 1917 when the 100-inch telescope was built for Mount Wilson Observatory. Sammy Keane Blog #7  Since I was unable to attend the second JPL field trip due to unfortunate events, I found myself looking throughout NASA’s dense website. Juno, NASA’s mission to Jupiter, really stood out to me. Launched on August 5, 2011, the goal of this mission was to understand the origin and evolution of Jupiter. Juno is a solar-powered spacecraft that’s observations will lead to a better understanding of the formation of our solar system and planetary systems discovered around other stars (eyes on the solar system). In addition to that, Juno would look for solid planetary core, map its magnetic field, measure water and ammonia in its atmosphere, and finally observe auroras (nasa.gov). Juno did not arrive at Jupiter until July 4th of 2016. Reading into Mission Juno allowed me to understand more about Jupiter, a planet that I before knew nothing about.
