Museum of Jurassic Technology

Response to the Museum of Jurassic Technology

Without a doubt, the Museum of Jurassic Technology was one of the weirdest most absurd
experiences I have had in my life. Located in Culver City, Los Angeles, this museum is basically i
n the middle of nowhere with one door and no windows. From the moment I walked in, I just
had a continuous feeling of confusion, to the point wherein some instances I was not even able
to form a question. However, even though I was puzzled basically the entire time, I was also so
inspired, interested, and had the best time. The maze-like setup, the choice of light in each room,
the surrounding sounds, and the overall set up of each exhibition was given so much care and
thought that it is hard not to be speechless throughout the whole museum. Every time I walked
into a room it was like I was a kid again playing hide and seek and I was scared that someone
was going to come up behind me and scare me.
My two favorite exhibition rooms were the Flower room and the Cat’s Cradle room. I remember
I was walking with Lia and she had told me and a few of my classmates that we needed to see
this special room. Though, because the museum is such a maze no one actually knew how to get
there and we instead had to just keep walking and hope we came across it. Thankfully we were
able to find this pitch-black room with the only light coming from behind x-rays of different
flowers. As you walk in, you are to grab a set of 3-D glasses and view the exhibition with them
on. It was like walking in an alternate universe. Remember those 3-D movies that you went to as
a kid? It’s like that but 10x cooler because you get to actually walk around and feel these flowers
around you. The Cat’s Cradle room was upstairs right before you enter the famous tea room.
This room had basically the exact opposite set up as the Flower room. Instead of feeling like
you’re in some other world where flowers are growing around you, I instead felt like I was in a
bright childhood classroom. This room had chairs and string for viewers to come and follow the
Cat’s Cradle video. The exhibition is very interactive and I enjoyed it because it reminded me
of my childhood and how I used to make these different designs with the string.

Overall, I had a wonderful time at the museum and I am so happy that we got to meet David Wilson. I
thought it was so cool that he spoke to us about his upcoming exhibitions and allowed us to see where
all the magic is actually made. Since we were unable to take photographs at the museum itself, I found
these ones on Wikipedia.
